Yes. We always think about what happens to cleaners once they’re washed down the drain, so our products are developed to biodegrade completely – and as quickly as possible. We start at the beginning with the right ingredients, selecting those that meet our criteria for fast and complete biodegradability. This means Ecover products are suitable for greywater use on vegetation and for septic tanks, too.
We don’t believe in animal testing—that’s why all of our cleaners are certified by Leaping Bunny and Cruelty Free International. As part of our qualification, we’re regularly audited to ensure both Ecover and our suppliers comply with the comprehensive criteria of the Humane Cosmetics Standard.

Dishwasher tablets are fragile things that don’t react well to water in the air; in fact, it causes them to crumble. We want you to open your box to find tablets, not powder, so we wrap each tablet to keep it safe. Our dishwasher tablet wrappers are made from polypropylene (PP) #5, a simple, stable, non-toxic, recyclable plastic.

The simple answer is that our products have an expected shelf life of about 2.5 years. After that, you may begin to see changes in the way they look, smell or work.
That said, an older product may work perfectly fine if it has not been exposed to factors that age products faster, such as light or heat. The best thing to do is give it a try in an inconspicuous area first. If it seems to have lost its cleaning abilities, just empty the bottle and recycle it.
Yes, all of our bottles are recyclable. Most of them are made from a blend of Plantplastic® (our proprietary plant-sourced plastic made from sugarcane) and post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR).
